There is a common belief that infertility is on the rise. In reality what has taken place is likely a generational shift in which modern society has placed tough demands on young people to pursue more years of education, enter into competitive careers and postpone childbearing.

Conversely, in generations past, family building began at a much earlier age before many anti-fertility factors took place. Looking at demographic studies, it is apparent that the peak years when the odds of pregnancy occur most frequently, centers around the mid- twenties until age 35 followed by a natural decline that accelerates rapidly after age 40.
