What Does this Mean for Future Mothers?

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that young adults 25 to 34 years old are holding off on marriage more than ever before in the last century. The main reasons for this decline include an increase in cohabitating rates, growth of women in the workforce, importance of obtaining higher educational degrees, and, of course, the unstable job market.

But, if you delve into it further, there are also other reasons why the marriage number is the lowest it has ever been. Men can go through their “Peter Pan Syndrome” where they feel that their 20s and 30s are decades of fun and self-exploration and they don’t want to be tied down with marriage and kids. Women, on the other hand, seem to want it all nowadays with the perfect balance of having a great career and family simultaneously. Women are putting off marriage so that they can be more financially stable to give their children a better life.

These are lifestyle facts about men and women. Life is not fair in that men can produce fresh sperm production continually whereas women are born with a limited supply of eggs. When a woman reaches adolescence, 90% of her eggs are lost. It gets more difficult to become pregnant as the woman gets older. On top of that, the woman has to factor in possible gynecologic problems such as endometriosis, pelvic scarring and uterine fibroid tumors that can occur at any time and may interfere with the normal process of egg entry into the fallopian tubes or failed implantation of the embryo.

What is the solution for this? Egg freezing! Preserve your fertility!
